R&B is categorized in two different sections. They are Rhythm and Blues and the modern contemporary style is know as R&B.
Rhythm and Blues was originated in the 1940s and was popular genre of African American music. During that time jazz based music with a heavy beat was becoming more popular. The typical instruments that were used are Drum kit Double bass Saxophone Horns Piano Organ Electric guitar Vocals Background vocalists. By the 1970 , rhythm and blues was used as a term for soul and funk. In the 1980s, a newer style of R&B developed, becoming known as contemporary R&B.
Contemporary R&B is a music genre which consists combinations of hip-hop,R&b and pop music. It was often used to describe a style of African American music after the disco which occurred during the 1980s. R&B has a unique record production style, drum machine-backed rhythms, an occasional saxophone-laced beat to give a jazz feel. It has also been referred as Rhythm and bass. This is because over the years the use of electronic equipment has changed the way music sounds and these days most music consist of hip hop beats to using synthesizers and soft electronic piano. Famous artist such as Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston are popularized R&B vocalists.
Most rap videos consist of some r&b whether it is the instrumental or vocals used. i have chosen to use an R&B instrumental which i will be rapping over about love. Love is common with R&B music and rapping about it fits it in with the genre. Artists such as Jay Sean use rapping as well as singing. However i will not be using any singing vocals as it will jut be a rap revealing emotions through the lyrics.
